First-time visitors to Cameron Highlands are often surprised by just how different the weather is compared to Kuala Lumpur or Penang. Here is how to prepare so you aren't caught shivering in your shorts!
The Temperature Reality
While daytime temperatures hover around a pleasant 21°C to 24°C, they can drop to 14°C at night. If you are going on a sunrise tour to Gunung Irau or Brinchang, it can feel even colder due to the wind chill. Pack a light jacket or a hoodie even if you think you won't need it.
What Shoes to Wear?
Unless you are only visiting cafes, leave the flip-flops at home. The terrain here can be damp and slippery. A pair of comfortable sneakers with good grip is essential for the farm visits, and hiking boots are a must if you plan on doing the jungle trails.
Rainy Season
Between October and January, the highlands see frequent rainfall, usually in the late afternoons. A compact umbrella or a light poncho should always be in your day bag.
